What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy ( often simply called Physio ) aims to help to restore movement and normal body function in cases of illness, injury and disability.  Physiotherapists take a holistic approach, looking at the body as a whole rather than focusing on the individual factors of an injury or illness.  As well as treating and relieving symptoms, physiotherapists teach you long term self management of musculoskeletal problems, helping to prevent a reoccurrence of your pain or injury.

At your first appointment, your physiotherapist will go through a thorough history, related to your symptoms.  This will be followed by a musculoskeletal physiotherapy assessment, looking at movement patterns, and muscle function, so that your physiotherapist can identify areas of weakness, and come up with an appropriate rehabilitation plan, to optimize healing and speed up the recovery process.
